BBC Taster

The BBC were launching a digital product that would gave people the chance to try, rate and share experimental ideas. I created a new look and feel that was skewed towards younger audiences and helped this become one of the most successful new initiatives from the BBC.

Process

Explaining ideas visually

This product was fairly complicated in the way it worked, so we needed to create a visual that supported quite a complicated voiceover without getting in the way, or detracting. The idea was to shoot our talent on green screen and create a mixed media world in which she was exploring. This demonstrated the broad range of new ideas that Taster was built to test and learn from.

Inspired by Wonka

The world we developed was inspired by Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and the unexpected surreal scenes from the film. We developed a range of shapes and rooms that were able to be explored by the user.

The film can still be seen here

Outcome

A clear, fun, and engaging film that explains the new product from the BBC and utilises production techniques to overcome some challenges we ran into.
